Primary Purpose of Department:

The Human Resources Department maintains responsibility for the development and execution of all policies, programs, and strategies designed to recruit, assist, motivate, develop, promote, compensate, reward, and retain the best qualified employees while supporting continued University growth with a focus on cultivating a diverse workforce. In addition, Human Resources identifies and provides students with meaningful, and developmental, on-campus employment opportunities.

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Director of Learning and Organizational Development provides leadership and oversight to two professional HR training and instructional design specialists in delivering high quality leadership and staff development programs for EHRA senior administrators, SHRA management and line personnel, and faculty administrators. Additionally, this office is responsible for organizational development and design consultation as part of cross-functional HR campus Organizational Design engagements, as well as continual analysis of the University current and future leadership and development needs. The director is a senior member of the AVC for HR’s staff and regularly meets and consults with directors, deans, associate and assistant vice chancellors/provosts and Chancellor’s Cabinet, aimed at advising and providing all appropriate and necessary leadership and development resources to assist in meeting UNC Charlotte’s fast-growing and changing workforce.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of the university’s institutional strategic plan, and evaluating the resources needed to meet training and development goals for the organization and assess the workforce’s current skill levels and compare them with the skills required to meet future objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for the design, development, delivery and performance of training solutions designed to equip faculty and staff with the knowledge and skills needed to perform at required and optimal levels. They will also manage training programs to ensure they are delivering results and coordinate schedules, allocate resources, prepare reports, and manage compliance for training.

Minimum Education/Experience:

A Masters Degree in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration or other related field of study, or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.

A minimum of 8 years of progressive organizational learning and development experience is required. A Master’s Degree in the related field and 10+ years of managing directly related activities across a complex college or university environment is strongly preferred.
