Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
FM has an exciting opening for a HVAC professional who supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the Central Grounds zone. The Central Grounds zone provides facilities services to properties including the new Student Health and Wellness Center opening in 2021.
An HVAC Assistant assists HVAC Mechanics with HVAC repairs and works independently as appropriate, cleans job sites, trains on more advanced installations and emergency repairs, and follows all customer service and safety protocols. A high school diploma is required with a minimum of four years of related experience with HVAC installations and repair. valid driver’s license, with a zero/positive points balance is also required.
- Assist skilled journey level mechanics in performing routine HVAC system maintenance, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup.
- Develop an increasing knowledge of types of HVAC tools, materials and equipment used in University facilites.
- Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.
- Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate procurement.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $16.50 – $17.78 per hour ($34,320 - $37,000 per annum).
For the position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks, DMV, and health screen.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Four years of work experience in a specific trade with two or more of those years work in a licensed building trade, preferably HVAC.
Licensure: Valid Driver's License with zero or positive points balance.
