Pharmacy Technician Instructor/Competency-Based Curriculum Instructor (Hybrid Asynchronous/Lab)
Job descriptionThe Division of Business and Community Services at Holyoke Community College is seeking one or more Pharmacy Technician instructors to teach a competency-based hybrid (online/face-to-face) curriculum to create educational pathways in Pharmacy Technician occupations that will support the upskilling of incumbent hospital employees with regional employers -- Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Medical Assistants (MA), and environmental service, hospitality, warehouse, and guest service workers. The program is through a Digital Innovation and Lifelong Learning (DILL) grant from the MA Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, administered by the Commonwealth Corporation. This pilot program builds on years of successful collaboration between HCC and the partners, who include healthcare employers, the MassHire Workforce Board of Hampden County, and others. Delivery of instruction will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous online, as well as face-to-face instruction, in alignment with career pathways at employer partners. Prepares syllabi, assessments, lesson plans and activities; provides to Assistant VP in advance of each class for approval.Provides timely feedback and instructional intervention to asynchronous students.Works collaboratively with employer partners, math and reading instructors, career advisor, employer partners, and HCC staff and administration as part of a team to deliver innovative curriculum and instruction.Assists in developing curricula approved by the Assistant VP.Teaches assigned curricula in accordance with course syllabus and assessments as scheduled; ensures all classes start on time and as scheduled; notifies the Assistant at least 3 hours in advance when a situation occurs that could prevent class from starting on time.Incorporates actual workplace scenarios, case studies, procedures into the courses.Evaluates students' written assignments and written and practical exams as applicable.Ability to work with classroom (or online) style as provided in order to meet specifications of course; ensures all equipment and supplies are returned to storage and secured following each class as necessary; immediately reports any issues to the Assistant VP.Completes required reporting and documentation, including assessment of learning outcomes, attendance verifications, evaluations, etc.Must be able to commit to hours of courses as scheduled; must be able to handle both asynchronous instruction and offsite lab modules at facilities in the community.Performs other duties as assigned by administration.Qualifications
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree; Experience working in a pharmacy, as either a pharmacist or pharmacy technician; Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body. Demonstrated experience teaching in an online setting. Understanding of Pharmacy Technician career pathways.
PREFERRED:Post-secondary teaching experience; Working with and assisting a disadvantaged student population, Experience in teaching adults in a post-secondary environment desirable. Previous experience teaching in an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited Pharmacy program and/or PTCB – Sterile Compounding instruction. Previous experience working as a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting. Prior experience in incumbent worker or entry-level worker workforce development training.
Non-Benefited, Part-Time Position
Compensation:$60-70/hr. for instruction (per contact instructional hour) based on experience; no benefits.
Funding: Grant funded, July, 2021 - June 30, 2022; possibility of renewal
