Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Now is an especially exciting time for the department as we near our 50th year of partnership with the Department of Sociology and Social Work at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T) a historically black university (HBCU). Specifically, the Joint Master of Social Work (JMSW) Program) is a joint program with North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University (NCA&T), and the BSW Program has a longstanding field program with NCA&T. The Department has over 300 BSW majors, 90 MSW students, a new Joint PhD with NCA&T, and 18 full-time faculty. The Department, School, and University place a high value on community-engaged scholarship.

Position Summary:

The Department of Social Work at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications and nominations for one 9 month, non-tenure, Academic Professional Track Assistant Professor position. This position is available in Spring 2022. The primary focus of this position is teaching. Priority will be given to individuals who apply by July 16, 2021. Application review will begin August 2, 2021.

A strong commitment to diversity/inclusion, social justice, and student-centered social work education is essential for this position. The person in this position will have teaching responsibilities across both the BSW and the MSW Programs, depending on departmental needs and individual interests. We especially seek teaching experience in clinical practice with individuals and families, groups, communities and organizations, aging, and integrated health care. An LCSW and other clinical licenses are valued.

The Department has CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)-accredited BSW and MSW school social work licensure programs. The Department has external funding from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) as well as other sources.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must:

  • Have at least two years of post MSW practice experience.
  • Work effectively/engage in collaborative scholarship with a culturally diverse department.
  • Be an active citizen in the school and university, with partnering universities and the broader community.
  • Possess an MSW in social work or a related field.
  • Have successful or demonstrated potential for successful social work teaching in undergraduate and graduate social work education.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LCSW and other clinical licenses are valued.
