Position Summary:

This position is on site at our Cullowhee campus.

This position is part of the primary care clinical care team at Health Services. The assistant medical director serves as a staff physician to provide patient care through diagnosis and treatment of a variety of illnesses and injuries in a college/university population. Staff physicians are credentialed and privileged to perform their duties according to Health Services policies and procedures.

The Assistant Medical Director works within the Division of Student Affairs Health and Wellness Unit to provide intentional collaboration with Campus Recreation and Wellness, Counseling and Psychological Services, Health Services, and Health and Wellness Education for the promotion of overall campus wellness to a diverse campus population to encourage students to stay informed, involved, healthy, and well.

Supervised by the Director of Health Services, with clinical oversight from the HS medical director. The Assistant Medical Director collaborates with the Director and Medical Director to make recommendations in the hiring, termination, and other changes in status of those supervised.

Minimum Qualifications:

•A Medical degree and board certified or eligible.

• One or more years’ experience in clinical medicine, primary care is preferred.

• Be duly licensed, or eligible to be licensed by the State of North Carolina.

• Requires exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Good computer and electronic record skills is required.

• Board certification in a primary care medical specialty.
• Experience providing in-service medical education to clinical staff.
• Experience supervising health profession students and trainees.
• Stays current on developments in the field of medicine and college health.
• The scope of the job occasionally requires attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
