Job description

Program Accountant

Located in a historic neighborhood in the nation's capital, Georgetown offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, exciting ways to take advantage of Washington, D.C., and a commitment to social justice. Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.

Job Overview

The mission of Georgetown University's Center for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) is to support and empower key actors in countries to drive, build, and own sustainable healthcare systems. CGHPI works with partners to respond to today's health challenges and bring quality services to scale while maximizing resources and achieving the greatest possible impact. Particular focus is to support countries to achieve the end of devastating epidemics including HIV and to build effective and resilient systems to respond rapidly to emerging threats.

Under the supervision of the university Comptroller's Office and the center's Executive Director, the Program Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager, any financial staff based in CGHPI country offices, and relevant Georgetown University partners, to ensure proper financial accounting in line with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) across CGHPI's diverse programmatic portfolio. The position will be directly engaged in budget planning and tracking across funding streams, oversee day-to-day spending across country programs, and will ensure adherence to fundamental principles of financial management, accountability, internal controls, compliance, and recordkeeping.

Primarily, the position will ensure that expenses and accruals are accurately monitored and tracked across CGHPI's country programs, shared with donors as required on a regular schedule, and posted to the university accounting system in a timely manner. The position will prepare financial reports as necessary and work with the university's Office of Financial Affairs to ensure accurate monthly financial reconciliation across different reporting and records systems - including program bank accounts.

The position will also support the program to meet financial reporting requirements of all donors - including expenditure analysis. Additionally, the holder of the position will ensure the program's financial accounts are managed according to all applicable rules and regulations, including Georgetown University's policies and procedures, U.S. laws and regulations, and according to internationally accepted accounting and financial management standards.

Work Interactions
The Program Accountant will report to the Executive Director of CGHPI, work closely with the CGHPI Finance Manager, programmatic staff as it relates to field-based finance and accounting, and relevant university partners, in particular in the Office of Financial Affairs.
