Departmental Overview

Welcome to IEOR! Here, we invent, analyze and teach tools and approaches for design, analysis, risk management, and decision-making in complex real-world systems like supply chains, energy systems, healthcare systems, and financial systems.

Industrial engineers find the most effective and efficient way to use basic factors of production — people, machines, materials, information, and energy — to make a product or provide a service.

The new Master of Analytics program in UC Berkeley's IEOR Department ( is designed to meet the rapidly rising demand for professionals skilled in analytical methods and tools for data-driven decision making to address complex business challenges across industries ranging from e-commerce to healthcare, from transportation to energy. Learning goals of the one-year graduate program include agile analytics development, technical communication, and project presentation.

The Marketing & Career Specialist (Marketing Specialist 2) will support the launch of the new master's program.


40% Content Creation & Strategy: Plans, develops, and implements marketing plans, strategies and/or events to drive the program's admissions and recruitment goals, including:

  • Drafts and edits copy, such as email drip campaigns, social media, publications, advertisements, press releases, blogs, news announcements, campus event calendar postings, etc.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating websites and intranet, in particular daily changes; supports with associated videography, photography, and graphic design needs
  • Ensures good customer service through providing appropriate information to answer questions and explain basic products and services.
  • Conducts basic market research and/or sales and generates and uses marketing and/or sales reports.
  • Creates and maintains marketing files, records, calendars, logs and other related documents.

    35% Career Development: Applying career counseling concepts, coaches graduate students and alumni on career pathways and resources:

  • Advises on professional skills such as resume/cover letter writing, networking, online branding and interview preparation.
  • Helps students identify their interests, values, skills, and personality type to better understand how these factors relate to career satisfaction and choice.
  • Provides guidance in researching and connecting to career opportunities.
  • Coaches on job search strategy, creating action-plans, goal setting and decision making.

    10% Event Promotion & Staffing: Manages the promotion of admissions and recruitment events, social media coverage, and registration, including:

  • Prepare communications materials including event promotion and online registration.
  • Event material management, which may include printing and production timelines, name tags and signage.
  • Provides general support and customer service to event attendees, faculty, staff and students.
  • Liaises with AV/video/ photography vendors.
  • Independently staff small, non-complex events which may include career chats, workshops, student coffee hours, and team meetings.
  • Operational and administrative support, and other duties as assigned/needed.

    10% Career Programming: Conducts and adapts workshops and programs to meet students' professional needs and interests.

  • Implements outreach efforts to encourage student engagement in programs and services.

  • Identify and create opportunities for students to connect with employers and alumni, through events for networking, panels to learn about careers, or other experiential learning opportunities.

    * Cultivates a network of industry, campus, and alumni partners to support programming and student recruitment.

    5% Professional Development: Add to existing marketing, events, and career development skill set through participation in staff and professional organizations, workshops, conferences, training, and other educational or networking opportunities.

    Required Qualifications
    • Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices.
    • Solid knowledge of institutional products and services.
    • Knowledge of customer service standards / procedures.
    • Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management.
    • Written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of the campus and / or medical center including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
