Assistant Director, Upperclass Team - Georgetown University Law Center

The Assistant Director advises students and alumni on public interest and government careers, with a primary focus on upperclass students and recent graduates. The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Upperclass Team, working closely with the Director and the Assistant Director for Public Sector Employment and Alumni Outreach to identify and prepare students for summer and post-graduate employment. Duties include:

  • Conduct one-on-one counseling, reviews resumes and other application materials.
  • Conduct career-related programming.
  • Participate in recruitment programs, employer outreach, and alumni networking activities.
  • Specialize in counseling and outreach in public interest fields as dictated by the needs of the team and the expertise of the incumbent. Areas of potential specialty include, but are not limited to, state and local government agencies, Capitol Hill, and regional markets.
  • Assist with the Partner Fellowship and guaranteed summer funding programs: such assistance may include, but is not limited to, outreach to potential host organizations, advising students, conducting information sessions, and overseeing administrative logistics.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Director of the Upperclass Team, OPICS. The position most closely works with the Director and the Assistant Director of Public Sector Employer and Alumni Outreach, but also interacts on a daily basis with other OPICS staff career advisers and recruitment staff. The position regularly collaborates with OCS career advisers, the Experiential Learning office, ODOS, Office of Academic Affairs, Financial Aid and the Registrar's office. The position periodically interacts with the Office of General Counsel.

  • Juris Doctor.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate public sector (non-profit or government) legal practice and/or law school career advising.

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working with students, especially law students; knowledge of non-profit and/or government legal hiring practices, particularly government agencies, and a counseling background.
