Wedding and Event Custodian (Temporary Employee Pool)

Primary Purpose:
We are looking for a responsible person to maintain and protect our facilities before/after Morris Chapel Wedding and Events. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important, to be careful and thorough in preparing, cleaning and tidying the premises. The ideal candidate will be focused on building upkeep. A keen eye for detail to make sure chapel and rooms are clean and ready for all events.


Essential Functions:
1. Ensuring spaces are prepared for the wedding or events by preparing snacks/water bottles in Colliver Hall and Sears Hall.

2. Make sure all trash is empty and picked up, tidying furniture and making sure it is in the correct place in each room, dusting surfaces and vacuuming.

3. Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets.

4. Ensure spaces are prepared for the next wedding or event if there are more than one in a day, taking out trash, tidying furniture and making sure it is in its proper location, vacuum chapel and rooms, sweep and mop floors if needed.

5. Report major damages and oversee repairs.

6. Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and making sure all lights are shut off.

7. Undertake occasional tasks (lifting heavy items, moving chairs, signs etc.).


Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience following oral and written instructions.
• Experience and knowledge of and adeptness in the use of manual cleaning tools.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to learn and adhere to University procedures involving the handling of cleaning agents or potentially hazardous materials.
• Reliable, positive attitude, and proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations.


Physical Requirements:

Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work scheduled five to ten (5-10) hours weekly, which varies by month depending on scheduled events. Ability and willingness to work weekends, and various shifts during weddings and Chapel events.


Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience, non-exempt
