Requirements

RISE is an innovative program designed to serve incoming JD students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in law school and the legal profession, including but not limited to underrepresented racial, ethnic, geographic, socioeconomic, and first generation college backgrounds. RISE is a cross-campus collaboration intended to help students form community with other entering students before classes begin; obtain the essential academic and professional skills that law school and the legal profession demand; and build relationships with peer mentors, teaching fellows, faculty, staff, and alumni across the Georgetown Law community to promote thriving and leadership capacity.

Reporting to the RISE Executive Director(s) with a dotted line to the Dean of Students, the RISE Program Director is responsible for administering many of the day to day operations of RISE for Georgetown University Law Center students. The Program Director's position has four primary functions:

(1) administer the day-to-day operations of the RISE program, ranging from individual student support to program and event planning and execution;

(2) promote RISE and develop and execute RISE communications within and outside Georgetown;

(3) assist in the strategic growth and development of RISE, including fundraising; and

(4) iteratively evaluate RISE's effectiveness and integrate findings into program structure.

Work Interactions
The RISE Program Director reports directly to the RISE Executive Director(s) with a dotted line report to the Dean of Students. The RISE Program Director will hire and supervise student workers, including RISE Teaching Fellows and RISE Peer Mentors. The RISE Program Director will collaborate with the Office of Admissions, the Office of Alumni and Development, the Office of Career Strategies, the Office of the Dean of Students, Campus Ministry, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Office of Public Interest and Community Service, faculty and other departments as required to support and grow the program.

Qualifications
  • A J.D. degree and 3-5 years of experience required. Ability to manage programs with minimal supervision, juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines and budgets, and closely manage detail are critical.


Other required qualifications include: excellent judgment, discretion and professionalism; strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the capacity to teach and speak before large audiences; strong organizational and execution skills; the capacity to navigate difficult personalities and situations; successful academic record in law school; empathy and high emotional intelligence; and social media fluency.

Preferred qualifications
  • The right candidate will be from an underrepresented background (or have significant experience working with students and/or professionals who are), have the ability and keen desire to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty and administrators and a creative, positive, problem-solving approach to complex issues.
