Network Support Administrator, McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

At Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, our mission is to build global business knowledge and inspire ethical leaders to serve the common good.

The Network Support Administrator serves as a computer and network systems technician, accomplishing the variety of tasks involved with the maintenance and administration of both a Local Area Network (LAN) and connected desktop and laptop computers. They also serve in a specialized support role for network server systems including Novell, Linux and Windows server operating system. Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, the Network Support Administrator has duties that include but are not limited to:

Network and PC Maintenance
  • Perform detailed diagnostic procedures for network and PC systems reported having problems
  • Create and maintain a library of PC software images to efficiently configure, update and incorporate new PCs into the MSB environment
  • Perform necessary maintenance of network PC systems
  • Initiate (and provide follow-up) call procedures to external maintenance support for those problems beyond normal capabilities
  • Administer the MSBTC laptop computer loaner services, including maintenance and update of loaner laptops, accurate forecasting of loaner requirements, and tracking of loaned computer - including installation, maintenance and operation of software to secure or disable missing loaned computers


User Applications Support
  • Demonstrate competence with all major applications and technologies on the network, World Wide Web technology and classroom presentation video teleconferencing technology
  • Perform user training on an ad-hoc or scheduled basis and in both one-on-one and classroom environments
  • Maintain familiarity with the network software structure, communications programs and file setup
  • Perform independent or assigned support in a timely manner based on when the support call was received and relative priority assigned
  • Document all completed support calls and follows up to ensure user satisfaction


Classroom Support
  • Demonstrate competence with all classroom technologies, including the installed or projected A/V systems
  • Routinely perform user training on an ad hoc or scheduled basis and in both one-on-one and classroom environments
  • Demonstrate proficiency with teaching aids used in the classroom, including videoconferencing, in-class polling, and encrypted test taking software
  • Perform independent or assigned support action in a timely manner based on when the support call was received and relative priority assigned
  • Document all completed support calls and follow up to ensure user satisfaction
  • In accordance with the ongoing communications programs established with formal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), provide user support as consistently scheduled and applied with only minimal user intervention required


Qualifications
  • Some college level credit
  • 3 Years PC and Network Technical experience
  • A+ certification
  • NetWare Administrator Qualification (CNA)
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)
