Job Description Summary
The Director of University Life Space and Event Management is responsible for the overall management of University Life spaces and event support, including the Penn Student Center at Houston Hall, Perelman Quadrangle, as well as facility support to University Life office spaces and a pool of classrooms. The Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of services and programs for the campus community. This role works closely and collaboratively with University Life colleagues and ensures alignment with divisional strategic priorities and values.

The Director will lead organizational effectiveness initiatives for the department including ensuring progress toward division and department strategic goals and service goals, creating training and professional development curricula, engaging in on-going assessment, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and participation in division wide efforts.

Job Description

DUTIES:

The Director of University Life Space and Event Management is responsible for the overall management and operations needs related to University Life spaces. With responsibility for the strategic planning and operations of Penn's Student Center at Houston Hall, the Director establishes goals and objectives based on the Division of University life values and priorities; and provides leadership in the implementation of services and programs for the campus community. This role also oversees the operations and facilities aspects of other University Life spaces including Arts Research and Culture House (ARCH), Iron Gate Theatre, Irvine Auditorium, outdoor spaces, central pool classrooms, and University Life offices/centers.

The Director will lead organizational effectiveness initiatives for the department including ensuring progress toward division and department strategic and service goals, creating training and professional development curricula, engaging in on-going assessment, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and participation in division wide efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in a University student life, campus center environment is required.
  • Professional experience in training design and delivery to student and administrative audiences is required.
  • Experience leading initiatives and programs to promote inclusion, and student belonging is required.
  • Experience in consensus building, working with both student and University leadership to develop and communicate policy is required.
  • Sound judgment, decision making, and ability to resolve complex problems with a broad organizational lens is required.
  • Ability to respond to facility and interpersonal emergencies calmly and succinctly; and willingness to work, non-traditional hours required.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including sensitivity to the needs and concerns of students and campus partners is required.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and logistics experience with attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to establish and achieve divisional objectives is also required.
