Job Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, this position will report to the Department Head. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing systematically planned and delivered instruction in lecture and laboratory environments, designing and developing astronomy/physics curriculum, evaluating lectures and laboratories, and advising students. Candidate must remain current in the related discipline and show evidence of ongoing professional development. Applicants must be willing to teach and develop chemistry courses for traditional, on-line, hybrid, and off-campus courses with variable schedules.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

This position requires a master's degree in astronomy or physics or a master's degree with 18 graduate hours in astronomy or physics.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with at least two (2) years of demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate astronomy or physics at the community college level. Ideal candidate will also have experience teaching algebra-based and calculus-based Physics. The successful candidate must be goal-oriented and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Must have the ability to work both individually and in a team. Knowledge of instructional technology and modern office software is essential. Candidate must be able to function in an environment characterized by continual changes in information technology. Must be capable of lifting/assembling heavy telescopes and performing night sky observations. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills are essential.
