English Instructor

Gogebic Community College seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position to teach English courses in Ironwood, MI. The College offers a generous salary and benefits package. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Services. We seek a candidate with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, someone with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning, and one who is familiar with student outcomes assessment. It is important that there is recognition, acceptance, and adherence to the community college mission and philosophy from our candidate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing lead instruction in English courses including but not limited to developmental instruction in our Accelerated Learning Program, composition, literature, technical writing, and creative writing.
  • Selecting, developing, and revising course materials as necessary.
  • Keeping students informed regarding course requirements, evaluation measures, and attendance policies.
  • Posting and maintaining regular office hours.
  • Participating in faculty discussions of curriculum, teaching-learning techniques, and teaching materials.
  • Participating in department and college meetings and committees.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 18 graduate credits in English from a U.S. Department of Education regionally accredited college or university and
  • A Master’s Degree in English or related field from a U.S. Department of Education regionally accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in English.
  • Experience teaching English, community-college level preferred, with a broad background in developmental, composition, literature, and creative writing.
