Security Officers (full-time)
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or G.E. D
Must be at least 25 years of age
Must not have any felonies or serious misdemeanors
General description of Job
The Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security of all persons and their personal property on Livingstone Campus and all properties own or operated by Livingstone College.
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
1.Serve as the single point of contact for campus incidents that occur during their shift, unless a higher ranking campus authority assumes responsibility.
2.Open and secure all buildings on campus daily or upon request by someone with official authority on the campus.
3.Continuously inspect the college campus buildings and grounds for fire, safety hazards, maintenance problems and areas where needed patrols are warranted. Report all problems to a supervisor or authorized personnel to ensure problems are logged and corrected.
4.Conduct investigations, prepare related reports, and testify in criminal or civil proceedings if needed.
5.Protect the confidentiality of information acquired through performance of their duty. (Driver’s license/dob., social security numbers of others, etc…)
6.Protect the confidentiality of security department reports and appropriate Livingstone College records.
7.Classified as essential personnel, that is responsible for reporting to work during scheduled & unscheduled shifts/ college events and closings as requested by the Chief or their designee.
8.Monitor weather conditions and report conditions to proper authorities.
9.Become thoroughly familiar with security procedures.
10. Perform regular security rounds as scheduled or requested.
11.Maintain a concise, clear and complete daily log.
12.Become familiar with alarm system procedures and take appropriate actions.
13.Maintain order on Livingstone Campus and other buildings owned/operated by Livingstone College.
14.Respond to any emergency situations on and off campus as needed.
15.Able to make responsible decisions and carry out those decisions for unscheduled events if needed.
16.Must be CPR/First Aid certified and able to administer if situation arises.
1.Security Officer may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating shift or as needed bases.
2.Perform security/safety coverage for scheduled events on weekends or upon request of supervisor(s).
3.Responsible for securing evidence to a crime.
4.Inspect and maintain the security vehicle in good operation. Inspect radios and other security equipment under their control.
5.Assist authorized persons into campus buildings and record all after-hour entries.
6.Be able to use a computer for report writing or other job functions that may require use of a computer.
7.Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and operate security vehicle in a safe and lawful manner.
8.Be able to perform all duties that may be required as a security officer.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess the skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job physically, mentally and emotionally without any limitations or restrictions.
1.Must have effective oral and written (English) communication skills.
2.Ability to use a computer and learn to use various software packages.
3.Must have accurate clerical skills, including ability to maintain daily logs, write incident reports, etc…..
4.Must be able to deal courteously but firmly with all persons entering or remaining on Livingstone College Campus.
5.Must be able to develop a working relationship with co-workers and general public.
6.Must have the ability to bend, stoop, climb, reach, stand for long periods of time, and walk the entire campus during a 12 hour period or whatever working shift.
7.Must be able to lift 50 libs.
8.Must be able to use discretion, make independent decisions and display sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations.
9.Must be able to complete ASP Tactical Restraint (Handcuffing) class
10.Must be able to complete ASP Tactical ASP Baton class
