Position: Sports Information Director   

Division:Sports Information Department:Athletics    

Reports to: Athletic Director     



Position Summary: The Sports information Director will provide general management and administration of public relations and marketing functions to effectively advance the college’s athletic programs. This successful candidate will also be responsible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to Livingstone College’s intercollegiate sports.     




Essential Duties & Responsibilities:   


•Oversee departmental budget, including planning, execution, and evaluating to ensure fiscal integrity of the department    

•Coordinate the compilation and maintenance of stats on teams and individuals and file all necessary reports with conference and NCAA    

•Maintain accurate historical records of teams and individuals    

•Coordinate the development and implementation of a proactive media outreach program to print, radio, TV and other electronic outlets    

•Prepare media releases to publicize news and communicate with the general public to provide information about the college’s athletic program and teams    

•Work proactively with the media to encourage coverage of college athletics events and news    

•Serve as the public relations agent for the Athletics Department in developing positive relations with media representatives from the electronic and print media    

•Build relationships with local schools, organizations, and community events by coordinating athlete appearances and participation     

•Oversee management of the press box and scorer’s tables at various on-campus sporting events, or assign coverage of this function     

•Ensure that workers are hired and assigned to cover the various game management functions required for each sporting event, such as public address announcer, music, scoreboard, live streaming video, statistician, photographing, and other functions    

•Oversee maintenance of all portions of the athletics website    

•Knowledge of managing social media campaigns and posts •Develop a comprehensive sports marketing plan for the department and it’s sports.    

•Other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director       




Education/ Experience:   


•Bachelor’s degree    

•3 to 5 years’ experience in a sports information environment    

•Master’s degree preferred •Prior experience interacting with the media (local, regional, & national) is required    

•Working knowledge of the NCAA rules & regulations is required    

•General journalism experience preferred    

•Competent photographic Skills required    

•Strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a     

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills    

•Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, Sidearm Website maintenance, and statistical software packages are required
