Overview

The Research Services department of Princeton University Library is hiring a Special Collections Assistant to join a small team to provide support to the Industrial Relations (IR) Section of the Economics Department. This position directly supports the researchers in the IR Section, the Labor Economics Librarian and a few other librarians with a variety of print and digital sources.


The scope of the work includes:

  • Research data agreements needed by IR Section researchers.
  • Dataset and working papers on the IR Section website and intranet.
  • The annual Selected References publication
  • Projects and collections to support Labor Economics research in PUL and in the IR Reading Room


Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Enter data, create records, work with vendors, coordinate correspondence and maintain inventory of records related to research data agreements
  • Assist with content, working papers and datasets housed on the IR Section’s intranet and public website
  • Assist in finding new publications, purchasing, and collation to support the annual Selected References publication
  • Manage physical items in the IR Reading Room for approximately one day a week
  • Assist the Labor Economics Librarian and a few colleagues with projects specific to Labor Economics research support
  • Conduct inventory, search the library catalog and other bibliographic utilities such as OCLC. Create bibliographic records and edit or add metadata in several databases. Use ALMA/Voyager and REPEC as needed
  • Maintain bibliographic integrity, inventory and collections development for the Labor Economics collections of PUL
  • Maintain the collections in the Industrial Relations Reading Room
  • Collaborate with team members in the Documents Processing unit to support general library needs
  • Maintain designated collections of the department (e.g. government documents in print, microfiche and electronic formats, general reference collection)
  • Engage in re-shelving and assist with collection-related projects as requested


Qualifications

Required:

  • Three years of library (or equivalent academic) experience that demonstrates the ability to perform detailed analytical work with bibliographic information or datasets
  • High School degree
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of library staff in written and oral form
  • Experience working with the public in a customer-service oriented field
  • Ability to function within a small team working collaboratively
  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively
  • Facility with bibliographic and web-based search engines
  • Experience with spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel
  • Intermediate level computer skills including proficiency in scanning operations, and basic knowledge of computer hardware, printers, and imaging equipment
Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Research service and library public service orientation
  • Working knowledge of ALMA, Voyager modules or other library ILS system
  • Working knowledge of image editing software and scanning workflows
