School of Criminal Justice & Public Administration

Public Administration (Healthcare Administration) – to develop and teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the Public Administration program’s concentration in healthcare administration; develop a program of scholarly activity; provide service to the University and the College of Business and Public Management; and demonstrate leadership within the area of expertise. The MPA Program offers degrees in public, non-profit and health administration. While the area of specialization is open, the successful candidate must be able to teach courses in the general public and healthcare administration curriculum, with particular expertise in healthcare policy and management across various types of healthcare organizations. The position will primarily be responsible for contributing to a growing faculty research capacity in healthcare systems and services. Teaching responsibilities will include both core and elective courses. This position requires a commitment to collegiality, innovation in teaching and learning, professional development and academic citizenship. Faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, academic assessment and other activities.

Qualifications: Ph.D, DrPH, MD, DHS, or Ed.D. degree from an accredited institution or terminal degree in the field of specialization or closely related discipline is required. Area of expertise should specifically be in Health Services or Health Care Administration. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy and be able to integrate technology into their teaching pedagogy. Preferred qualifications include: significant experience with online course development; clinical experience in healthcare; a record of scholarly activity appropriate to a regionally comprehensive institution; evidence of a commitment to professional service and community outreach; and good academic citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching graduate classes in Health Services Administration topics and/or relevant industry experience.

This is a ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective for the Fall 2021 semester. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Courses may be taught at the Union campus, Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands or other locations.

All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental/school, college, university and community level is also required. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Proficiency in the Learning Management System, Blackboard and Online Learning Pedagogy is required, consistent with University guidelines. Kean may offer free voluntary Blackboard workshops to otherwise qualified applicants.
