    Manages and oversees the university's environmental, health and safety and sustainability programs on campus:

    • Manages policies and procedures for both internal and external constituents
    • Manages EHS Team and oversees all campus’ environmental health initiatives
    • Oversees programs, policies and procedures development and implementation
    • Responsible for sustainability program and initiatives on campus including energy management, waste/recycle program
    • Manages campus annual stormwater permit through DNR
    • Assesses current and future needs of the function and plans accordingly
    • Applies operational practices and coordinates with other closely related teams to improve efficiency
    • Provides input to short- and long-term plans and strategies for the function (e.g., develops and directs training programs, provides quality assessments and other miscellaneous services related to safety and compliance)
    • Ensures projects and plans stay within resource and budget requirements
    • Coordinates resources and sets daily priorities to meet operational objectives and offset competing priorities
    • Collaborates and directs all program inspections and reviews to ensure all facilities are in compliance with existing, new and proposed environmental regulations
    • Uses judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems
    • Impacts the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team and its contribution to the function, recommending efficiencies that align with the organization and best practice
    • Clearly and effectively explains information and changes, ensuring understanding
    • Regularly collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish objectives
    Responsibilities
    • Generate and manage annual EHS budget (including monthly reviews)
    • Generate scope of work for new/renewed contracts
    • Not sure this is seen as a “key” responsibility on the campuses now.
    • Review proposed changes to regulations and develop plans to comply
    • Monitor MDNR to determine when updated federal regulations are adopted by state
    • Monitor the rate of injury, compare to other UMS System campuses, and study trends
    • Review injury reports for common root causes requiring facility maintenance and/or modification
    • Develop and implement programs to reduce employee injuries.
    • Maintain current understanding of equipment and/or facilities necessary for life safety (AED, fire extinguishers, clean agent suppression systems, etc.)Keep current on proposed project Scopes, reviewing each for EHS impacts (Asbestos, Land Disturbance, Hazardous waste, Egress, etc.)
    • Manages and ensures laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, biological safety, or hazardous waste.
    • Works with faculty and various committees across campus that aligns with UMSL EHS policies and procedures.
    • Works with UM System to develop and plan emergencies or emergency planning.
    • Responsible for developing and providing training pertaining to EHS
    • Other duties as assigned
    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

    Preferred Qualifications
    • LEED AP, or similar related experience LEED does not seem applicable. That’s for architects or (maybe) facility managers.
    • Experience with “HAZWOPER”.
    • Experience with Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is a plus.
