Minimum Qualifications:

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

2-4 years of experience in a diagnostic sonography department.
Knowledge and experience with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
AB or OB/GYN registry required. AB, OB/GYN and RVT registry must all be obtained within one year of employment.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing ultrasonic diagnostic procedures; educating patients regarding procedures; performing DOT and ECG testing; utilizing department PACS; and performing administrative functions including insurance pre-certifications.
This is a 10 month position with June and July off.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Operating ultrasound equipment; following oral and written instructions; and communicating effectively with patients, visitors, co-workers, and supervisor within the organization. Considerable knowledge of diagnostic sonography methodology and techniques. Answering telephone and responding to questions and requests, or refers caller to appropriate individual(s). Transports patients to clinic if necessary. Maintains records and files.

See objects closely, as in reading. Hear normal sounds, as in answering phone. Receive and give verbal communication. Push/pull objects with minimal effort continuously, moderate effort frequently, and maximum effort occasionally. Sit, stand, or remain on feet for 30 minutes consecutively, eight (8) hours per shift.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs routine ultrasound procedures following safety and infection control guidelines as per written orders of UHC and external Clinicians (encompasses MDs, PAs, NPs). Instructs and educates patients regarding procedures to alleviate anxiety and achieve high quality results. Performs chain of custody drug testing and electrocardiograms.

Collects all necessary patient demographic and health insurance information, inputs appropriate procedural information into electronic health records, and completes all necessary precertification documentation and functions to ensure optimum reimbursement by managed care insurance companies.

Follows all prescribed safety standards in operating medical equipment. Maintains ultrasound equipment to ensure high-quality and reliable operating condition. Ensures examination rooms and other work spaces are highly-organized and cleaned to ensure effective infection control. Performs other duties as assigned.
