The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for parasite production and maintenance of filarial life cycle and conducting experiments independently or with minimal supervision. This position will also supervise and train undergraduates in these procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Manual dexterity; Previous laboratory animal, parasitology/entomology experience; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Graph Pad Prism; Experience using a microscope/dissecting scope; Previous management of filarial life cycles; Knowledge of larval migration inhibition assay; Extensive knowledge of experimental design of both in vivo and in vitro experiments with filarial parasites.

Assist in maintaining the life cycles of mosquitoes and filariae; coordinate and prepare shipments of filarial materials to researchers; Laboratory maintenance – cleaning and sterilize glassware and equipment, stock and order supplies; restraint, handling, and bleeding of laboratory rodents, dogs and cats.

Periodic duties:
External training coordinator; Maintain animal inventory records and order animals as needed; Cross-train on other laboratory procedures, and assist in procedures as needed; Maintain equipment and supply inventories and repair records; Perform related duties as required and assist PI, Assoc. and Asst. Research Scientists as needed.
