Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, is seeking to hire a full-time Public Safety Dispatcher to serve as the first point of contact for individuals seeking emergency and non-emergency calls for service. This position provides customer service by triaging and recording all incoming calls and use telephones, two-way radios and text messaging to contact and notify Macalester employees, city emergency personnel, and other support services.

This is a middle shift position and some weekends are required

• Acts as first point of contact for people seeking Macalester emergency and non-emrgency calls for service. They will triage, log calls into Argos, and dispatch appropriate department staff. Monitors radio traffic and keep track of Public Safety Officer's activities and situations.
• Trains, schedules, and monitors student dispatchers.
• Assists community members with lost property, obtaining identification cards, and general information. Monitors campus security cameras for irregular or unusual activities.
• Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Operations Captain.
• Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Operations Captain.
• Engages in and promotes Macalester’s culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status or orientation. 

• High School Diploma or GED required.Vocational Training or Associate's Degree in EMS or Public Safety preferred but not required. 
• 1-3 years of industry experience preferred.
• Understanding of radio-telephone operations and procedures, understanding of policies and procedures of receiving and processing emergency calls, call screening techniques and phone etiquette, and communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to problem solve, take decisive action, act under pressure, and effectively work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
• Must be able to understand detailed procedures that incorporate multiple campus divisions and departments.
• Ability to learn and to operate specialized computer systems/software, 800 mhz radio, and closed circuit camera system.

Physical Requirements: This job requires one to be able to:

• Lift up to 25lbs
• Have clear vision at 20 inches or less.
• Handle moderate environmental noise
