The University of Virginia is seeking a seasonal hourly Grounds Worker to perform basic grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weeding and mulching at Blandy Experimental Farm in Boyce, Virginia.
Blandy Experimental Farm is a 700-acre University of Virginia ecological field station located in the northern Shenandoah Valley, about 10 miles east of Winchester and 60 miles west of Washington, D.C. Its mission is to increase understanding of the natural environment through research and education. The State Arboretum of Virginia, located within Blandy Experimental Farm, is a public garden displaying more than 5500 trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants in a diversity of habitats including woodlands, meadows, wetlands, and open fields. Proper grounds maintenance helps provide a positive and attractive image of Blandy for the public and contributes to the best possible display and care of the Arboretum collection.
The employee in this position performs basic grounds maintenance.
Duties include mowing, weeding, mulching and other similar tasks.
This is a seasonal position. Employment will continue through the growing season only - spring, summer and early fall.
Position Compensation Range: $13.00 - $14.50 Hourly

Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: None, although the ideal candidate will have some grounds maintenance experience.
Licensure: Valid Driver's License is preferred
Must be 18 years of age or older
The person in this position must be able to perform manual labor outdoors in a variety of harsh environmental conditions, using mowers, other landscape equipment, and hand tools. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
