Public Relations Professional 1 employees engage in the strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between University organizations and the public. They promote a positive image of the University by providing information about the institution to students, staff and faculty, and the public. Duties may involve handling routine communications functions, such as updating websites, disseminating newsletters, and maintaining a social media presence, as well as writing press releases, managing media relations, and organizing promotional campaigns. Public Relations Professional 1 employees work independently and manage important relationships in alignment with the organization's public relations strategy.
The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for an Assistant Sports Information Director. This is a full-time position that will assist the Sports Information Director with the day-to-day operations of the department; prepare press releases and articles; assist with maintaining the department website; and travel with various teams to cover sporting events.
A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field is required, as well as an understanding of sports information/media relations. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and have the ability to write press releases.

Education: Bachelor's degree in English or Communications

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
