Overview

The James Madison Program (JMP) Communications and Undergraduate Program Administrator (CUPA) is responsible for all JMP undergraduate programming and all JMP communications and media. The CUPA reports directly to the Program Manager and has first line supervision of the Communications Coordinator with the Administrator delegating and overseeing any of the communications responsibilities listed below. 

Responsibilities

Communications

  • Oversee all design of Program materials and posters for public and private events
  • Manage production of annual report, program updates, and other print material
  • Manage content updates to the Program’s web site (event details, announcements, photo gallery, videos)
  • Produce and manage newsprint ad placements
  • Draft and send all public event announcements
  • Manage the Program’s social media platform content through supervision of the Program’s Communications Coordinator

Undergraduate Program Administration

  • Oversee the Undergraduate Fellows Forum (UFF) member and recruitment process
  • Develop Forum curriculum
  • Organize and oversee on and off-campus programming
  • Manage financial details of event budgets, expenses, and reimbursements
  • Evaluate and administer all JMP award funding for undergraduates
  • Arrange all seminars for UFF members with JMP Visiting Fellows
  • Oversee JMP communications with the UFF
  • Manage the JMP co-sponsorship for the Annual Polity Conference for Undergraduates

General Program Support

  • Assist Program Manager and Executive Staff as requested in general JMP operations
  • Assist the Events Coordinator as necessary for other JMP large conferences and events

 

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications  

  • Excellent writing skills suited to an academic environment, with the ability to originate text for public and internal announcements, as well as the Program’s website;
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation sufficient to compose, edit, and proofread correspondence and reports;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact, maintain, and to work effectively at all levels, with faculty, students, staff, and the external community;
  • The ability to organize and convey information in a clear and concise manner as well as prioritize and meet deadlines;
  • Proven successful background in decision-making processes, excellent organizational skills, ability tp exercise discretion and independent judgment, and to be able to work autonomously to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated track record of professional leadership and willingness to learn;
  • The ability to function effectively in a team-based environment;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe InDesign or other current graphic design software, Adobe Acrobat, and Drupal web platform;
  • Ability to lift event materials and supplies, perform furniture arrangement, and transport event-related materials around campus;
  • Abilitly to work flexible hours, including some evenings and occasional weekend days and evenings.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the values and mission of a higher education research institution;
  • Experience with University systems and software including Prime, Concur, and SharePoint;
  • Familiarity with University departments and resources;
  • Familiarity with Princeton's administrative procedures and policies;
  • Experience with vendor management;
  • Advanced degree in related field.

This position interacts directly with many high level scholars from both Princeton and other universities and is accountable for consistently upholding the Program’s reputation and high level of excellence.
