The Director of Career Planning is the senior career development officer. Articulating the value of the academic mission and its relevance for careers is critical to student and university success. The Director must educate, motivate and empower constituencies including students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, employers and others to contribute to this essential mission. These efforts contribute to retention of students to graduation and successful career outcomes at graduation.Work Tasks:
•Create and promote a vision for career planning on campus that creates understanding, enthusiasm and participation in the mission.
•Lead and administer career planning efforts at CNU.
•Oversee functions of career counseling, employer recruitment, internship program coordination, and the student employment application process.
•Provide leadership to initiate programming and outreach to a wide variety of constituencies including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and recruiters about career planning, career exploration, graduate school application processes and job search.
•Communicate about the Center to students, recruiters, alumni, parents and faculty.
•Promote the liberal arts mission and its applicability to the work world.
•Partner with faculty and others to develop and implement initiatives for career readiness that highlight the value of the liberal arts curriculum.
•Engage faculty and staff, alumni, parents, in events that increase awareness and usage of the Center.
•Communicate regularly about the Center’s mission, initiatives and student outcomes to a variety of constituencies.
•Supervise direct reports (and their reporting staff) including motivating, coaching, mentoring, hiring, evaluating and initial training of Center for Career Planning staff.
•Lead strategic planning and staff development initiatives for the Center.
Reporting & Technology:
•Oversee technology applications, databases, web presence and user interfaces including Handshake, BigInterview, FocusII, and Elevate.
•Oversee reporting initiatives including usage data, recruiter reports, departmental assessment, and summer activities and outcomes surveys.
•Prepare and analyze data for annual reports.
•Counsel students and alumni and facilitate their career development across all stages including self-assessment, career research, decision-making, internship and job search, and graduate school planning.
•Demonstrate and guide students in use of CCP website, Handshake, LinkedIn and other career development websites.
Relationship Development and Networking:
•Develop relationships and network with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, employers, and graduate school recruiters to support students’ attainment of their career plans and to promote the value of the CNU liberal arts mission.
•Serve as liaison with the offices within the Division of Enrollment Services, Alumni Relations, Office of Advancement, Student Affairs, and academic deans’ offices.
Staff Professional Development and University Service:
•Participate in webinars, conferences, and site-visits with industry colleagues to remain current on trends in career planning, hiring, and higher education.
•Lead and administer individual and group training with CCP staff to maintain their knowledge.
•Serve on University committees and represent the CCP at various CNU functions.
•Maintain comprehensive knowledge of career services and best practices including student engagement methods, career coaching, internships, career readiness, employer relations and recruitment methodologies, and the application of technology in the delivery of services.
•Develop and deliver standard career exploration and job/graduate school search workshops.
•Collaborate with CCP staff, other CNU staff, faculty, student groups, alumni, parents, and recruiters to develop and deliver requested programs such as career panels, major-specific workshops, interview days, and other special programs.

•Ensure all University rules, policies, regulations, and internal customer service expectations are followed.

Master’s degree in a related field or a Bachelor’s degree and experience that equates to an advanced degree is required.Preferred Education:
Master’s degree or higher with a focus in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Services, Business or related area of specialization preferred.Experience Required:
