Job Description Summary:

Work location: CEPS\Providence Campus

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under minimal supervision, serve as primary staff person at an ABE (Amgen Biotech Experience) site, having responsibility for daily workings of the program, and the primary contact for teachers. Perform and design laboratory work and presentations on materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Play an active role in the day-to-day operation of the program (e.g., ordering supplies, planning and conducting Professional Development Institutes (PDI’s.)

Prepare lab reagents for the ABE labs and Undergraduate Biotechnology lab courses.

Provide ongoing troubleshooting support to participating teachers engaged in the ABE labs.

Responsible for preparing materials for use by ABE teachers and students, creating kits and checking them out and in, and inspecting and maintaining inventory.

Perform research work under occasional review.

Supervise undergraduate student assistants and assist with lab instruction of undergraduate students.

Handle and maintain technical instruments required for performance of experiments.

Maintain supplies and equipment used by schools engaged in the program.

Maintain a PDI calendar and waiting list, if necessary.

Interact with the ABE Program Office around strengthening professional development and curriculum implementation.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers; word processing, database and spreadsheet software; relevant laboratory instruments. Kit materials.

Required Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

1.Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology or related life science field.

2.Minimum of three years of laboratory experience.

3.Demonstrated lab skills (including cell culture and molecular biology lab techniques.

4.Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

5.Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

6.Demonstrated ability to lift 30 pounds (kit materials).

7.Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

8.Must provide own means of transportation.

9.Must be able to pass a criminal background check (RI only).

Environmental Conditions:

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Must provide own means of transportation to transport kit materials to area high schools. Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Must be able to pass a criminal background check (RI only).
