Academic Coaching Specialist

The Coastal Student Success Center is accepting applications for an Academic Coaching Specialist (Time-Limited Position with benefits).

The Coastal Student Success Center which includes Academic Coaching Specialists provides proactive and reactive programming to meet the following needs of Coastal Carolina University’s students: academic enhancement, personal growth, civic engagement and career exploration. Each program is specifically designed to meet the overall educational, social, civic, professional and personal needs of a variety of students on the academic spectrum, mainly focusing on first year students, to increase overall student retention and matriculation to graduation and meet the goals and objectives of the Coastal Carolina University Strategic Plan. The Coastal Student Success Center provides guidance and support to students who require additional support towards achieving degree completion. The staff enhance student success by offering a variety of programs and services that include personal academic coaching, developmental workshops, and referrals to campus resources.

Duties include, but not limited to: manage caseload of students within specified retention programs; utilize a developmental coaching approach to academic mentoring; teach sections of specified academic support course; maintain a strong understanding of challenges and opportunities faced by at-risk students; maintain a strong understanding of success coaching concepts; including learning and studying strategies and non-cognitive factors; maintain documentation of student interactions and generate regular performance reports; coordinate efforts to support special populations of students and plan and execute intervention strategies for students who receive academic alerts, in collaboration with academic units; assist students with navigating academic and non-academic resources on campus, online, and in the community; conduct workshops and presentations for students or organizations; assist the Director, Academic Coaching Experience Department (ACED) with special projects that contribute to institutional retention goals and represent the office at campus events; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in counseling, education or any academic discipline that CCU offers in the core curriculum and previous experience working in education are required. Previous work experience at a higher education experience and experience working with students who are academically at-risk and diverse student populations are preferred.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, or any academic discipline that CCU offers in the core curriculum. Previous experience working in education is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous work experience at a higher education experience is preferred. Experience working with students who are academically at-risk and diverse student populations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Effective written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment, while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Demonstrated commitment to a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population is preferred.
