Department Summary:

The College of Education Educator Preparation Office (EPO) works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and district partners to prepare classroom teachers and other education professionals. The EPO supports clinical field experiences, TExES Exam preparation and the educator certification process.

Position Overview:

This position serves as the Certification Officer for all initial and advanced educator certification programs for the University of North Texas. This position ensures compliance with all Texas Education Agency rules and statutes as approved by the State Board of Educator Certification as those rules pertain to the certification of UNT candidates (average n=800 candidates) in all initial and advanced programs leading to recommendation for licensure as an educator by the state of Texas.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience as a certification officer, field experience coordinator, or other role requiring knowledge of the educator certification processes and policies required by the Texas Education Agency and the State Board for Educator Certification.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Salesforce, and EAB Navigate.

Experience interpreting the Texas Administrative Code and/or similar policy documents.

• Oversees and processes all UNT educator certification recommendations to the Texas Education Agency for both initial and advanced certificate programs


• Maintains and disseminates current knowledge of all certification programs, College of Education, UNT, state, and national accrediting agency requirements related to the educator certification process to all students, faculty, staff, and external individuals in writing and in person.


• Problem solves and collaborates with internal & external partners.


• Provides support and guidance to candidates, program coordinators, and personnel on certification issues; helps determine best course of action based on university and college policy and within state regulations to help individuals navigate complex and challenging situations relating to educator certification.


• Manages data and documents for accreditation and compliance reporting


• Serves as liaison (with the Associate Dean for Educator Preparation) to the SBEC/TEA on matters that need clarification and/or guidance from the SBEC/TEA.
