Position Overview:

This position is responsible for overseeing the cost accounting requirements associated with sponsored projects, this includes the preparation of the F&A proposal, effort reporting, monitoring research service centers and cost sharing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field and five years of professional experience in accounting, finance or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, legal statutes, and analysis and reporting of financial data.
• Working knowledge of financial accounting within the relevant environment.
• Ability to analyze numerical detail, identify patterns or trends, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present financial data in clear concise forms to a variety of audiences.

Physical Requirements:

Develops, designs and analyzes various cost models (including F&A proposal) annually or as required to ensure compliance with Federal cost accounting standards. Independently conducts complex cost studies on campus-wide data, provides reporting and recommendations, particularly in the area of maximizing F&A recovery.


Responsible for the effort reporting and commitment management systems at the university. Develops, maintains, manages the effort reporting processes and procedures. Trains the campus on the effort reporting process.


Develops campus-wide policies and procedures, cost models for research service centers. Performs cost analyses, compliance reviews and generates other support as appropriate for research service center rate development and inclusion in the F&A rate proposal process.


Evaluates and develops procedures to ensure that cost sharing is accurately captured and reported. Provides periodic reviews to ensure that cost sharing requirements are being met by the PI and department.


Responsible for the annual sub-recipient Single Audit reviews to ensure compliance with institutional and federal policies and procedures.
