Cytogenetic Technologist IIIHuman Genetics Program

Location: New Orleans, LA

Summary

Under minimal supervision, performscell culture and harvest, microscope monitor analysis of chromosomes for thedetection of abnormalities; prepare karyotypes; operate and maintain laboratoryequipment needed to perform daily duties; increase productivity and maintainproficiency in the wet lab and analysis sections; proficient in FISHmicroscopic analysis including FFPE. With minimal supervision, demonstratesproficiency in sample preparation, hybridization, washing, imaging, andmicroscopic analysis of interphase nuclei and metaphase cells. Knowledge ofhematological diseases and recognition of specific abnormalities; adhere tolaboratory policies for safety, conduct, and performance Under minimalsupervision, coordinates, oversees, and performs routine and specializedactivities related to the operation of the cytogenetics laboratory. Developsprotocols, coordinates work flow and oversees quality control in specialized areasof the laboratory.


Required Qualifications


Tech 2

  • BS in Biological sciences or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience in clinical cytogenetics
  • ASCP certified
  • LA State licensed or eligible
Tech 3
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field
  • Five (5) years clinical cytogenetics laboratory experience
  • ASCP certification in cytogenetics
  • Louisiana state licensed or eligible
