The Advancement and Alumni Relations office is responsible for fundraising and alumni engagement effort for the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education, which includes the Varsity Blues intercollegiate sports programs. The advancement staff work to solicit financial contributions to support the Faculty and its academic and co-curricular priorities. Through a range of programs, events and special initiatives, we raise awareness among current and prospective donors, alumni, volunteers and funds regarding the importance of investing in the Faculty and our students. Our office engages in cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with all stakeholders and building of on the positive associations our alumni have with the University.

Your opportunity:

The Senior Development Officer (SDO) will be part of a team working under the general direction of the Director, Advancement and Alumni Affairs, who are tasked with the responsibility to research, identify and cultivate individual donor prospects at all levels with a focus on gifts and pledges up to $100,000 in support of our curricular and co-curricular programming. The incumbent is responsible for developing tailored programs to identify and gain/enhance the interest and involvement of individuals who directly, or through other sources, are capable of making major gifts. The incumbent will also ensure proper stewardship takes place following a gift to maintain the donor/sponsor involvement, interest and support. The active involvement of key members of the university community and volunteers is essential to the overall success of such a program. The SDO will be involved in the training of volunteers in cultivation and solicitation activities. They will also be responsible for making solicitation calls.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
  • Determining the appropriate involvement of members of the University community volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation and recognition process
  • Developing tailored fundraising initiatives that support strategic initiatives
  • Identifying, evaluating and recommending the necessary steps to bring the prospect closer to making a major financial commitment to the University
  • Analyzing the impact of stewardship programs on fundraising initiatives
  • Meeting face-to-face with current and potential donors to discuss giving interests and opportunities
  • Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
  • Producing complex donor reports

+Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Kinesiology and Physical Education or a related science degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. CFRE certification is a strong asset.
  • Minimum five years related experience including donor relations, gift solicitation of a minimum $25,000 and including experience in a staff fundraising role
  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills and ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Strong computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications. Proficiency in Arbor and reporting services an asset
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, strong attention to detail and to meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work cohesively as a team member as well as independently and to take initiative
  • Excellent research skills

*Regular schedule with some overtime including some weekends for alumni events and programming.
