Advertised Job Summary:

The assistant director will primarily oversee cultural awareness programming for the office of multicultural student affairs (OMSA) to increase awareness and understanding of identity, cultural diversity and social justice. The assistant director will work to increase the volume and visibility of the university’s cultural awareness programming and broaden the impact of these efforts through collaboration with campus partners and student organizations. As a member of the multicultural student affairs team, the assistant director also will provide departmental support and guidance on effective methods for retaining and providing cultural support to historically marginalized identities, the unit’s diversity education programs, and provides individual support to students in their academic and personal development.

The primary responsibilities of the assistant director for Multicultural Student Affairs include:
•Develop and implement programs and activities that build cultural/diversity awareness and foster understanding acceptance
•Collaborate, support, and develop programs that promote diversity and inclusion within the Carolina Community
•Collaborate, promote, and provide leadership to student initiatives, including advising student organizations
•Develop and facilitate educational workshops for students, faculty, and staff addressing relevant student and community issues related to diversity, equity, and or inclusion

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 1 year related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience. In addition, this position requires a variable work schedule. Evening and weekend hours will be required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures and backgrounds. Experience needed in advising students and student organizations, as well as, programming and budgeting skills.
