Summary of Duties:

This position will provide leadership and oversight across several key areas of IT Operations at WSU Everett. Specifically, this position will oversee the IT Service Center, IT Systems, IT Infrastructure, IT Development/Architecture for WSU Everett. This position is the Area Technology Officer for WSU Everett and the Everett University Center and will engage all areas of the WSU system in matters of IT governance and leadership. This position will be the face of IT at the WSU Everett Campus/Everett University Center. This position is also responsible for developing and managing budgets, including lifecycle management of IT hardware/software, the management of an IT service center, and handling position and personnel duties. Additionally, this position will assist the Chancellor of WSU Everett in capital planning, space management, and any other areas of IT Operations and ongoing projects as necessary. This position will work with the Chancellor, Staff, and Faculty to grow and sustain the programs and services within IT Operations.

WSU Everett is a small but growing campus. The WSU Everett campus is also home to the Everett University Center (EUC), which offers programs from Western Washington University (WWU), Eastern Washington University (EUC), and University of Washington – Bothell (UW-Bothell). The WSU Everett IT department currently consists of 1.0 FTE permanent IT staff, and three to four part-time student workers throughout the year. This position is hands on and will be the second FTE permanent IT staff. This position will be expected to provide back up to the desktop support role when necessary. This position will serve as the point of contact for Network related issues.

This position leads, directs, and oversees the highly technical and complex tasks associated with the enterprise level services, including the design, implementation, day-to-day operations, and monitoring of technical data, desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, video conferencing and related hardware and applications. Provides frequent and regular reports to leadership teams to verify compliance with accepted Service Level Agreements. Manages IT infrastructure resources appropriately to ensure enterprise systems are functioning appropriately and being implemented in a secure manner according to industry-recognized best practices. Creates and manages individual projects as necessary. Manages team activities such as developing, designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining small- and large-scale technical systems or projects. Conducts annual reviews of assigned services and functions, and initiates new or revised IT policies, procedures, methods, and SLAs. Establishes tactical and operational priorities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technology field plus six years of information technology experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • The six years of IT experience should include at least two years of experience in a leadership role.

  • Professional experience reviewing, testing, designing, building and delivering endpoint and video conferencing services in a large, complex, and diverse enterprise environment.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of Windows, IOS, and Linux, and associated scripting tools.

  • Working knowledge of Palo Alto Global Protect VPN.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of networking.

  • Experience with enterprise configuration management solutions.

  • Experience in Distance Learning systems (e.g. Canvas)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory environment, Microsoft Operating Systems and Office 365 applications to include Teams and OneDrive.

  • Working knowledge of Networks to include VOIP devices.

  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Exposure to project management practices (either Agile or PMP) and the demonstrated ability to follow project management guidelines to complete projects successfully.

Demonstrated ability to work as both a member and the leader of a team.

Ability to convey technical information to a diverse audience through written documents and oral presentations.

Public speaking experience, e.g., presentations, training.

Experience with Polycom and Zoom classroom endpoints.

Experience developing and managing budgets.

Experience developing and managing technical systems or projects.

Experience managing Windows Servers and Virtual Machines.

Management of Cisco Networks both wired and wireless, Meraki experience a plus, ONT to the desktop.

Experience with enterprise virtualization and data storage technologies and tools.

Experience with enterprise configuration management solutions such as SCCM.

Experience with system restore software, Deep Freeze experience a plus.

Industry certifications (Network+, CCNA, Security+, MS MCSA).

Experience with Apple products including iPads.

Experience with digital signage such as BrightSigns.

Experience with troubleshooting tools such as Splunk.
