Summary of Duties:
The Art Director will inspire, lead and supervise WSU’s central University Marketing and Communication (UMC) team of three graphic designers. Reporting to the university’s creative director, the art director is a new position for the university. This role will be responsible for leading creative design initiatives and delivering bold visual storytelling solutions. The selected candidate will conceptualize, develop, design and implement original graphic designs and layouts across digital and print media, producing high-quality marketing materials that elevates WSU’s brand and the university’s profile. The art director will effectively and efficiently staff projects, provide communication and direction to the graphic design team, and offer timely and helpful guidance to improve creative designs. The selected candidate will possess a strong creative vision with a clear understanding of strategic objectives that ties back to the WSU brand. The art director must have outstanding design skills; the ability to guide, evaluate and elevate design execution; and possess a passion for team building, process and a commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
At least 8 years full-time professional experience in concept development and design of high-quality promotional materials.
Demonstrated past success leading a team of graphic designers and working on multiple, large-scale projects on tight deadlines.
Experience managing creative development with proven mentoring, supervisory and team-building skills.
Proven experience across multiple forms of creative expression and production, including traditional, digital and social media.
Hands-on experience with design, typography, color, web layout design, print production, image selection and package design.

Experience with standard office software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Proficient in design tools and technologies, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, AfterEffects, XD, etc.), HTML, Jira, Confluence.
Self-motivated with excellent work ethic, positive attitude, and obsessive attention to detail. Strong understanding of the existing and changing digital and web landscape.
Ability to work independently and also in team environments, where one must respect and cultivate diverse and alternative perspectives.
Strong communication and presentation skills across multi-disciplinary teams, including the ability to lead meetings.
Higher education experience a plus.
Monthly Salary: Commensurate with qualification and experience.
