Job Id: 656 # of Openings: 1 Wheaton College Summer Institute Director Job Overview The Wheaton College Summer Institute equips outstanding high school students from around the world to serve Jesus Christ through academic study, artistic expression, leadership training, and spiritual development. The Director will oversee the development and implementation of the Wheaton College Summer Institute, working with stakeholders to leverage Wheaton College’s unique resources to create a welcoming, engaging, and distinct academic experience. The primary responsibilities will include creating a Christ-centered, residential liberal-arts pre-college curriculum, developing a recruitment strategy, providing logistical support, and the hiring, training, and management of program staff—as well as teaching undergraduate classes for the Christ at the Core curriculum. The Wheaton College Summer Institute Director reports to the Chief Enrollment Management Officer, with support and oversight from the Provost on matters relating to the curriculum and faculty professional development, with Core Studies faculty rank and status. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides vision, strategy, direction, and planning for the Wheaton College Summer Institute
  • Oversees curriculum design and programming in collaboration with Wheaton College faculty and the Office of Student Development
  • Works with the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions, and Marketing Communications to create a marketing plan and recruitment strategy
  • Manages the application process and evaluation of applications for the program
  • Manages the budget and expenditures
  • Hires, trains, and directly supervises a program assistant and residential student staff; ensures legal compliance and safety practices
  • Provides logistical support for housing, scheduling, transportation, etc.
  • Serves as a key liaison to multiple constituents, such as faculty, senior administrators, program staff, alumni, donors, high-school representatives, and service providers
  • Works with Advancement to fundraise for program support and scholarship opportunities
  • Teaches two First Year Seminars in the Christ at the Core program each year, with the possible addition of Advanced Integrative Seminars after the full launch of the Wheaton College Summer Institute.

  • Ph.D. and a minimum of two years of experience in academic programming
  • Experience developing and managing academic programs
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Experience teaching in field of expertise
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with various stakeholders including students, parents, staff, and administrators.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience recruiting, training, and managing a diverse staff
Physical Requirements The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
