The Department of Music at Spelman College invites applicants for a one-semester, part-time lecturer for the Fall semester of 2021. The successful candidate will teach the first and second levels of music theory/aural skills classes. Each section is a combined theory/aural skills class that meets four days a week for 50 minutes. The class is taught in a piano studio with the goal to integrate theory, aural skills, and piano to strengthen each area. The successful candidate should be willing to work closely with students at a Liberal Arts college with a commitment to teaching and engagement of students.
Specific Course(s) to be taught:
SMUS 113A Music Theory I, MTWR 1:00-1:50 pm; 4 credits
SMUS 113B Music Theory II, MTWR 4:00-4:50 pm; 4 credits
A minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate discipline (e.g. music theory or composition) at the time of application
ABD, DMA, or Ph.D.in music theory or closely related field (piano performance or composition); previous experience of teaching courses in music theory.
