Job Description:

ECU Pediatrics Admin is currently seeking research assistants with an interest in environmental health/human health to assist with a NIH funded research project evaluating the effects of PFAS on human health. These research assistants will primarily be involved in processing, aliquoting, labelling, storing and inventorying human blood, urine and saliva samples.

Samples will be obtained from subjects living in Wilmington, Fayetteville and Pittsboro and will be sampled over the course of several weekends (Friday/Saturday/Sunday). Hence the job requires travel and weekend work. Mileage, per Diem (a food allowance) and single occupancy hotel is covered by the research study. Approximately 20 paid hours per weekend worked are expected. Time commuting is not paid.

Requirements:
•Must be able to use basic laboratory sampling devices such as transfer pipettes, micropipettes etc.
•Must have IRB training prior to beginning work (can be done online if not completed at time of application)
•Need to have blood-borne pathogen training prior to beginning work (can be done online if not completed by time of application)
•Must be able to work as part of a large integrated research team
•Must be attentive to details and able to focus on tasks for prolonged periods
•Must be able to provide own transportation to research sites
•Must follow all COVID and other safety protocols

Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.):

Preferred Candidates will be upper level undergraduate students who have completed at least one science based laboratory course (eg. chemistry, biology, microbiology etc) and/or have had some experience working in a research or clinical laboratory.
