The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.

Accounts Payable Representative is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and processing supplier invoices, miscellaneous reimbursements, and travel & expense reimbursement requests in accordance with DOE guidance and contractual obligations.


Supplier Invoice and Expense Processing 60%

  • Review and process subcontractor invoices in accordance with subcontract terms and applicable policies.
    • Examine supporting documentation for completeness and compliance.
    • Obtain appropriate approvals.
  • Research and analyze exceptions and discrepancies to determine appropriate resolutions.
    • Communicate with various stakeholders, both internal and external.
    • Resolve complex expense processing issues.
    • Serve as an escalation point for the Accounts Payable group.
  • Complete daily batch transmission to Princeton University for payment processing and reconcile the transmission to actual payments issued.

Travel Expense Reimbursement 25%

  • Audit Travel Expense reports in Concur for compliance and adherence to PPPL Travel Policy
  • Provide assistance and training to new Concur users.
  • Communicate and work to resolve discrepancies with travelers and their delegates.
  • Escalate and resolve aged items in a timely manner.
Other 15%

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing process
    • Obtain, analyze, and record monthly accruals for subcontracts and other agreements
  • Perform various account reconciliations
  • Assist Accounts Payable Manager and Controller in completing various Ad Hoc assignments and requests.


Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years experience in an Accounting operation preferred
  • Will consider 4+ years of experience in lieu of Degree
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with SAP Concur
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and Google Applications
  • Understanding of banking processes including wire and ACH payments and foreign currency transactions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high- pressure environment, characterized by frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to effectively set priorities, to exercise initiative and utilize good judgment.
  • Ability to operate independently and complete assignments.
Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires bending, reaching, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 10 pounds or less.
