The Institute of Public Safety (IPS) offers SF’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Criminal Justice Technology degree programs, as well as vocational certificate programs in the areas of law enforcement, corrections, emergency medical technician and paramedic.
IPS is currently seeking an Associate Director for EMS Programs, responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of EMT, paramedic, and A.S. degree programs, which includes functions such as recruitment and orientation of personnel, coordination of curriculum and planning, student application processing, budget and equipment management, coordination of clinical placements, maintaining program accreditation with the Committee on Accreditation for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP), and extensive collaborations with partner agencies. The Associate Director also provides general administrative and technical guidance to the IPS director and staff, ensures diversity and inclusion, and works to improve IPS and college processes and productivity. Responsibilities and Duties
Provides leadership and vision to EMS faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to ensure that programs and operations are managed properly and IPS achieves its mission.
Provides general and tailored briefings to senior staff and stakeholders.
Provides leadership and collaborates with SF staff and partner organizations in the administration of American Heart Association training center policies and operations.
Constantly assess the quality of EMS programs, recognizing strengths and identifying areas for improvement, and implements changes as needed. Demonstrates vision and innovation to ensure that programs and operations serve as examples for other organizations to follow.
Resolves student and staff issues.
Collaborates extensively with the EMS Programs Medical Director, the EMS Programs Advisory Committee, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
Collaborates on the evaluation of faculty and staff performance.
Works closely with IPS Director and organizations such as CoAEMSP, the Florida Department of Health, and partner organizations to maintain accreditation of IPS programs and facilities.
Oversees the management, design, development, scheduling, and implementation of IPS programs in compliance with state and national standards.
Promotes a professional, supportive, innovative, safe, and non-discriminatory environment for all students, faculty, and staff to ensure that all decisions and other actions by IPS personnel are in the best interests of the College.
Provides good stewardship of SF funds, grant funds, and other funding sources to ensure that training and education resources are dispersed in a prudent manner.
Performs planning, budgeting, and procurement functions.
Collects data and prepares, maintains, and transmits various reports and records.
Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information in accordance with state, federal, and SF protocols.
Assists with recruitment and selection of IPS personnel ensuring compliance with SF policies and procedures.
Ensures that IPS programs are responsive to workforce development needs of the public safety agencies within the College’s district.
Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with the agencies to ensure that IPS activities serve the needs of the community.
Will serve as an instructor in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Director, Institute of Public Safety Qualifications
In accordance Section 64J-1.0201(3)(a) of the Florida Administrative Code (FAC), the appointee must:
(1) have successfully completed Levels A and B coursework listed in Table I and Table II as identified in the National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors (August 2002 edition), as defined by Section 64J-1.001(9) of the FAC;
(2) have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the United States Department of Education;
(3) be certified as a Florida paramedic in good standing with the Florida Department of Health; OR hold a paramedic certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians AND obtain certification as a Florida paramedic in good standing with the Florida Department of Health;
(4) have at least four years field level provider experience in the prehospital environment with an Advanced Life Support provider; and
(5) have a minimum of two years of teaching experience as a Level B instructor.
Additional Requirements: Out of state applicants must obtain paramedic certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and obtain certification as a Florida paramedic in good standing with the Florida Department of Health prior to their first day of employment. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds without assistance. A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred: A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with experience working in a community college and/or university setting.
