DESCRIPTION: The School of Business at the University of Redlands welcomes applications for a full-time visiting lecturer position in Information Systems. The department seeks candidates who have experience in working with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting diverse student populations to accomplish curricular goals.
The University of Redlands is recognized as a premier regional liberal education institution, situated on a picturesque campus in the city of Redlands, within one hour of Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, and Lake Arrowhead. The School of Business offers innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs at several locations throughout Southern California. The position expects teaching up to 32-units through June 30, 2022 and may be renewable.
Applicants will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Information Systems (IS). Courses in the MBA, MS in Business Analytics, and B.S. in Business are/will be offered in on-ground, hybrid, and online formats starting Fall 2021. On-ground was suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic but is anticipated to partly resume in the Fall of 2021. The selected candidate will be expected to teach up to 32 units (eight courses/sections of four units each, the courses are eight weeks long) in the 2021-22 academic year. The candidate is expected to convert two IS courses from hybrid to fully online teaching mode, in collaboration with an instructional designer. Business and/or industry experience in Information Systems and/ or Information Technology is preferred, but not required. Some background in GIS is preferred. In addition to teaching activities, the selected candidate will work closely with IS faculty in the School’s Analytics, GIS, and IT area group on IS/IT curriculum revision, development, design, and assessment. In addition, the selected candidate will work closely with adjunct faculty teaching IS and IT courses including some supervision and possibly mentoring. If the applicant has GIS background, he/she might undertake some involvement in the school’s Spatial Business Initiative and teach a GIS course as part of their annual teaching load.
The School expects excellence in teaching along with experience or strong interest in cross-functional teaching; desire to work with other faculty and with practitioners to create and implement innovative curricula teaching, and online learning; effective interaction with members of diverse cultures; motivation and desire to mentor and inspire traditional and non-traditional learners.
POSITION CRITERIA: Eligible applicants must have a completed master’s or doctoral degree (Ph.D./DBA) in Business, Information Systems, or related fields, with clear evidence of teaching achievement and/or potential. Prior experience in teaching Business Information Systems (BUSB 333 or equivalent) at the undergraduate level and Information and Knowledge Management (BUAD 683 or equivalent) at the graduate level is desirable. Strong knowledge of Learning Management Systems such as Moodle is required. Experience in online instruction and online course development is highly desirable. Industry applicants in IS-related positions with teaching experience are encouraged to apply. All applicants should have a record of achievement in their functional area and vibrant interest in cross-functional teaching, adult learners, and business education within the context of traditional liberal arts and science disciplines. The School of Business operates without discipline-based departments. The selected candidate must be able to competently interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty. The position does not have any research and scholarly expectations, nor School-of-Business or University-wide service expectations.
