MONTHS/HOURS: Staff, Part-time, Twelve (12) Month, Twenty (20) hours per week

SCHEDULE: TBD, including evening shifts when campus reopens (at least 2-3 late night/closing shifts). Days and hours are subject to change based on the needs of the department (including variations in hours during May Term and summer months.)

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $15.13 per hour

GRADE: "4"

INTRODUCTORY PERIOD: Six (6) months

DESCRIPTION:  The Armacost Library seeks a reliable and service-oriented person to join our access services team. Staff and faculty members in access services are responsible for supporting patron-centered service as it pertains to circulation of collections, course reserves, interlibrary loans, managing patron accounts, stacks maintenance and shelving, first-level reference assistance, and general public service in support of students, faculty, staff/administrators, and visitors. Primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: maintaining expert knowledge of circulation system (e.g. Ex Libris Alma) and borrowing policies; managing all functions of billing for overdue and lost materials, including communicating with students, parents, and Student Financial Services; providing backup support for course reserves and interlibrary loan coordinators, and providing excellent patron-centered services. All members of the access services team participate in training student staff; contribute to the development of documentation and training materials; and identify opportunities for service and technical improvements. In addition to their regular duties, the person in this position participates in library-wide committees/teams/groups or projects and will perform other duties as assigned.

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participates in rotating shifts at circulation/information desk, supervising student employees or working alone.
  • Coordinate and perform all functions related to notifying and/or billing patrons regarding overdue or lost circulating materials; maintain records, and coordinate with University Student Financial Services.
  • Contribute to collections maintenance: shelf-reading, shelving, shifting projects (large and small), updating call number range labels, and locating lost items.
  • In collaboration with Access Services team members and lead student supervisor, coordinate activities, instruct, mentor, and contribute to performance evaluation of student employees.
  • Participate in professional development for continuous improvement patron-centered services and programs.
  • Maintains department confidence and safeguard operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with at least four (4) years of current, relevant library experience, or a relevant associate’s degree (or equivalent) with two (2) years current, relevant library experience. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational and communication skills both verbal and written; have good independent judgment and a demonstrated ability to set priorities; be able to maintain multiple ongoing tasks; work cooperatively with co-workers, supervisors, faculty, and students. Must be able to competently interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
