Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid reports to the Director of Financial Aid. Responsible for providing information, advice and assistance regarding various types of Federal and State financial aid available to students, and assist the director in the day to day operations of the department and represent the school in the absence of the director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline preferred; relevant experience may substitute for all or part of the education requirement. Requires two to four years experience on jobs leading to this, or similar jobs

Knowledge of computerized electronic processes in the delivery of financial aid and veterans administration educational programs (i.e. EDE, VACert) Experience with automated systems related financial aid management (SIS+ preferred) Knowledge of federal and state financial assistance and veterans administration educational programs. Must be a multi-task oriented individual with an appreciation for working within deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively including public speaking. Ability to supervise. Ability to deal with students, faculty and staff in professional manner. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others. Ability to follow established college policies and procedures.

Requires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; and lifting objects up to 25 pounds; operating a personal computer, calculator, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited four year college or university is preferred.
Knowledge of financial aid processing for federal, state and local programs.
Knowledge of reconciliation of federal programs to include work study and direct loans.
Knowledge of working with Veteran’s Programs (Federal and State).
Knowledge of Banner Software is a plus.
Knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy (FERPA).

SALARY :

$45,000 to $50,500

Work Hours:

40 hours a week. Some weekend is required.

Essential Job Functions:

Analyze student applications and determine eligibility for financial aid. Request additional documents as needed. Verify information from student’s tax returns.

Advise students concerning reasonable academic progress, determine whether or not a student is in violation, and discuss normal procedures to get out of violation, and recommend appeal procedures for unusual circumstances.

Determine eligibility and select students for State Grant programs for Director’s approval.

Perform the student loan processes in BANNER to submit to COD so students can receive their student loans.
Complete loan reconciliation every month.

Essential Job Functions:

Provide veterans information concerning benefits, eligibility and application procedures on Montgomery G.I. benefits and Texas Hazelwood Act. Collect data, determine which classes apply to degree program and turn in paperwork to Certifying Official for final review and processing.

Determine eligibility for Hazelwood Act and give paperwork to Director to sign off on. Enter Hazelwood exemption onto computer if approved.
