Assistant Director, Fitness - Campus Recreation

Job description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Programs, the Assistant Director of Fitness is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive recreation and sports program for a diverse campus community.  The Assistant Director of Fitness is also responsible for coordinating the fitness-related programs and events for the department and supervising the day-to-day operation of the group fitness program and personal training services.  The Assistant Director of Fitness will also direct management of the Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Student Recreation Center, supervise student staff, and oversee facility usage at the Aramark Student Training and Recreation (STAR) Complex.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in recreation, exercise science, physical education, kinesiology, or related field.  At least four (4) years of past experience in the collegiate recreational sports environment or equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. 

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Ability to develop and conduct fitness-related special events   

*Ability to develop publicity and promotions for fitness-related programs and events

*Ability to maintain detailed and organized files on all program area reports, including purchases, facility audits, injury/accident reports, incident reports, and event participation data

*Ability to provide vertical and horizontal support to coordinators and constituents that have involvement with designated program areas 

*Ability to provide necessary reports and usage data as needed to supervisor(s)

*Maintain equipment inventory for all fitness related activity in cooperation with Operations Managers at both IBC and STAR

*Maintain all publicity efforts regarding fitness programs

*Assist with management of the Fitness Facilities per emergencies, conflict resolution occurrences, and policy interpretation 

*Represent the department on division-side and University-wide committees

*Assist department with weekend supervision of facilities (one weekend per month)


*Master’s Degree

*Initial level of fitness and exercise certification through ACSM, ACE, IDEA, NASM, YMCA or NSCA
