This is a dispatcher position for the public safety at a multi-campus college. The dispatcher is often the responsible entity for receiving calls for service and dispatch resources, making appropriate notifications.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of communications and operational tasks in support of public safety, law enforcement, and security operations, linking those in need of assistance to those who render assistance.

Essential functions include answering telephone lines, operating radio equipment, using various software, monitoring emergency systems, monitoring CCTV, and providing information and customer service to the College Community via telephone and walk-up window. This position requires the incumbent to work rotating shifts, holidays, and occasional overtime.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

Ability to follow instructions and perform with minimum supervision.
Ability to understand and speak English clearly.
Excellent oral (no speech limitations) and written communication skills in English.
Ability to multi-task various job functions. Ability to handle stress under emergency situations.
Ability to type at least 30 words per minute.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Must be a United States citizen or have been a lawful resident of the United States for the past 10 consecutive years.
Successfully pass a telecommunications assessment.
Successful completion of a thorough background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous communications center experience.
Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Basic Dispatcher Certification.
National Criminal Information Center and Virginia Criminal Information Network Certification.
