Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of Student Affairs encompasses the administrative Office of the Vice Chancellor and the following units: Student Conduct, Career Services, Center for Personal Development, Intramural & Campus Recreation Services, Residence Life, Student Engagement, Rudolph Jones Student Center, and Student Health Services. The Division’s primary role is to provide an exceptional co-curricular experience, supportive of the academic program at Fayetteville State University from orientation through graduation.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Director of Student Leadership & Special Projects serves as a member of a larger team of professionals and provides leadership, direction and support through programmatic and strategic efforts for developing and coordinating a structured comprehensive leadership development program. This position will direct and implement ongoing visioning, development and assessment of programs and experiences centered on leadership education. Additionally, this position coordinates New Student Orientation, interdepartmental collaborations, etc. related to the mission of the Division of Student Affairs. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Engagement.

Description of Work Continued::

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Leadership Development, Learning, Outreach & Education
•Direct a comprehensive leadership development program built upon the Social Change Leadership Theory model where experiences are intentionally and developmentally structured to allow students to grow in skills and levels of engagement from emerging to advanced.
•Direct, manage, and instruct leadership workshops, programs and student leader training across all departments within the division.
•Direct and implement co-curricular initiatives that foster seamless learning, leadership development and success for students.
•Design the curriculum for the Leadership Academy consistent with CAS Standards, learning outcomes, and the division core competencies.
•Direct and lead initiatives and experiences to help students understand Student Engagement and Leadership as it relates to career preparation and their personal lives.
•Develop and implement new academic initiatives that result in augmenting and extending leadership and learning.
•Develop learning outcomes and goals for initiatives and programs
•Develop an assessment plan that will identify student outcomes and creates opportunities that promote learning and leadership within our student population
•Stay current on trends that support student leadership development.
•Direct and lead programs that increase student involvement, leadership, and service.
•Oversee logistics, supervise programs, arrange and chaperone travel related to the Student Leadership program in accordance with university policy.
•Serve as an advisor for a student governed organization.
•Serve on a variety of University committees and initiatives to guide best practices for student leadership development.

New Student Orientation & Other Special Projects
•Plan, develop, lead, evaluate and manage all aspects of new student orientation programs.
•Develop a New Student Orientation communication plan to include managing website and coordinate updates/changes as needed.
•Coordinate recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of Orientation Leaders.
•Develop an assessment plan for Special Projects which align with student outcomes.
•Manage projects and special events as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement.
•Work collaboratively on a regular basis with University College and other entities within Academic Affairs to coordinate co-curricular programs and activities to introduce leadership and service opportunities to new students through First Steps, summer-bridge programs and other initiatives.
•Coordinate the division’s involvement in new student recruitment projects and events including Open House and University Day.

Division and University Responsibilities
•Develop proposals and reports for policy, programs, and other initiatives that align with division objectives.
•Identify grant opportunities and funding sources for department initiatives and apply for relevant grants at the local, state, and/or national level.
•Participate on Student Affairs, University, and/or community committees, coalitions, task forces, and/or search committees
•As assigned by supervisor, act as a liaison with other specific campus partners
•Plan the New Student Orientation and Student Leadership budget and determine financial resources needed for initiatives and programs
•Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::

A Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or College Student Development or related degree is required.
