Inaugurated in 2019, the GSB’s Teaching and Learning Hub houses a wealth of resources for supporting professors’ instructional needs with the vision of building and maintaining the GSB’s reputation as a world-class institution for student learning. These resources include learning design services, educational technology integration, course materials development, case studies writing and distribution, guest speaker engagement, course logistics support, and more.

We are looking for an Associate Director of Learning Design and Technology (LDT) to lead a creative and talented team of learning experience designers, academic technologists, and engineers. The LDT team partners with faculty to shape the future of teaching and learning at the GSB, bringing to life MBA, MSx, and Executive Education course content through excellence in design. In addition to developing student-facing content, the LDT team partners with the Associate Director for Teaching and Learning Programs to develop and deliver faculty-facing content and engagements, such as pedagogy workshops, web resources, and one-on-one consultations. Finally, the LDT team contributes critically to innovations in teaching and learning, incubating and piloting new teaching technologies, techniques, and programs.

As a manager, you will lead by example, focusing your team’s strategy and goals on the needs of the faculty. You are a collaborative bridge builder, always taking the initiative to find and deliver creative solutions. You drive towards the needs of the students and faculty while providing clarity and focus for your team. You are eager to learn and grow, and are excited to help shape a new organization and its new processes, vision and direction.

Ultimately, you will help foster the school’s world-class reputation by promoting the signature GSB learning experience and helping faculty excel in the classroom.

Job Purpose

Oversee the work of learning experience designers, academic technologists, and engineers. Participate in the design and development of learning solutions in support of the overall curriculum. Assess client needs and establish an overall curriculum to satisfy business unit/organizational needs. Establish standards for online and instructor-led course development, participant and instructor materials, online performance support solutions, and learning evaluation. Contribute to the mission and vision of the Teaching and Learning Hub.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage, recruit, coach, develop staff.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for pedagogy and instructional design focused faculty help requests. Meet with faculty to understand their needs and offer resources as appropriate; prioritize, triage, and scope such requests.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Teaching and Learning Hub leadership team to develop and execute vision, strategy, and budget objectives; develop, implement, and oversee LDT team vision, goals, and budget in alignment with those of the department.
  • Evaluate pedagogy goals with technology tools, with emphasis on designing and using the appropriate technology for the situation.
  • Oversee appropriateness, effectiveness, efficiency, scope and success of departmental instructional design projects.
  • Manage key vendor relationships.
  • Proactively monitor, evaluate, and pilot emerging technologies for adoption and implementation; evaluate requests for technology-based learning projects and recommend appropriate learning solutions.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute projects according to defined deadlines while maintaining consistency with strategy and goals.
  • Develop change management and learning plans.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Excellent management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop departmental budgets, timelines, goals, and schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to present and advocate for new initiatives, technologies, strategies, and goals to senior management.
  • Applied understanding of current and emerging technologies in higher education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions and learning curricula.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in explaining and applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a highly cross functional and collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, learning team members, vendor partners, and business partners to create a learning environment that is service-oriented, supportive, engaging, and effective for adult and nontraditional learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.

  • Deep empathy for, and understanding of, faculty mindset, needs, and priorities; ability to drive team engagement around areas of greatest faculty need.
  • Deep understanding of faculty expectations around faculty-staff interactions; ability to balance providing an outstanding experience for faculty, developing cutting-edge learning experiences for students, and managing project scope and team bandwidth.
  • Ability to navigate complex landscapes and multifaceted projects.
  • Ability to quickly develop a deep understanding of team processes, practices, programs, and technology.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience as a primary instructor in a college or university setting.
  • Experience working closely with engineers and technologists to deliver technology solutions for pedagogy challenges.
