Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Athletic Trainer III is responsible for providing the initial evaluation of injuries or illnesses sustained by athletes, identifying injury and illness risk factors associate with participation in a particular sport and providing health care information and counsel to the athletes, parents and coaches. May provide oversight and guidance to lower level trainers and staff. Typically requires a proficient and comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, practices and procedures required to effectively perform the job. Works with minimal supervision often involving difficult assignments.

Additional Department Summary: The primary goal of this position is to provide comprehensive athletic training coverage for the Adapted Athletics program. The Certified Athletic Trainer will administer student athlete health care; coordinate medical coverage for practices, games, and treatment sessions; maintain records/forms regarding injury care as well as broad range student athlete health care administration needs, and coordinate with other medical professionals as needed in student athlete care.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in Sports Medicine, Training, Health, Biology, Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or Exercise Science and three (3) years of athletic training experience in a comparable athletic training setting (Graduate Assistantships are equivalent for 1 year experience); Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (First Aid/CPR/AED) certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association) BOC Certification;
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge: Experience in injury prevention, rehabilitation, administration of student athlete health care and all the duties that entails. Organization and documentation of student athlete medical files. Strong communication skills. Organization and maintenance of athletic training room. Ability to work extended hours when needed.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience in a comparable adapted athletics program. Prefer current membership in one or more of the following organizations: National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA); American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM); National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA)
