Primary Purpose of Department:

Existing as a department within the Office of Undergraduate Education (UGE) the Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion (OADI) shares the overall mission of the UGE unit. UGE at UNC Charlotte enriches the academic community by offering a broad range of initiatives promoting student success, ensuring access, and enhancing the educational experience of all students. Through transition programs, learning communities, support for student-athletes, academic advising, career services, experiential learning, honors education, disability services, tutorial programs, and initiatives for underrepresented students, the UGE cultivates life skills critical to successful graduation and global citizenship. Advocating for the needs of a diverse student population, the UGE utilizes an integrated student-centered approach that reinforces rigorous academic expectations and encourages student engagement from the time of enrollment through graduation.

Services rendered include but are not limited to academic advising, transition programs, academic support workshops, peer counseling and tutoring, and personal counseling. Moreover, the office serves as a clearinghouse for information and referrals to other university resources and academic support services. While the focus remains on student success, OADI supports/assists in organizing the creation of curricular and co-curricular academic activities within the academic colleges and units of academic affairs. Additionally, faculty are supported in expanding their understanding of DEI to strengthen the curriculum, classroom environment, and UNC Charlotte community.

Primary Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Director for the 49er Intensive Transition program is responsible for holistic program development for the 49er Intensive Transition Program campus-wide, including program marketing, recruitment, implementation, evaluation, and assessment of program impact. This position is also responsible for managing the 49er FIT cohort supported by OADI. They are responsible for course teaching, secondary academic advising, monitoring of academic progress, mentoring, and offering referrals to other campus and community resources. Additionally, they will supervise peer mentors and TAs associated with the program.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

Program Coordination – Holistic program development for the 49er Intensive Transition Program campus-wide, including program marketing, recruitment, implementation, evaluation, and assessment of program impact.

Program Management – Managing the 49er FIT cohort supported by OADI.

Teaching and Academic Advising – Course development and teaching and offering secondary academic advising for all student participants in assigned programs.

Training and Supervision – Recruit, hire, train, and supervise graduate Teaching Assistants and undergraduate peer mentors associated with the 49er FIT program.

Other administrative duties – Assistant Director will be required to assist with departmental strategic planning, budget development, departmental annual report, personnel management, alumni development, serving on campus committees, and assisting with other departmental programs as needed.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Education or other comparable degrees. One year of experience in a university setting; teaching experience in a university setting; experience with student personnel management; experience conducting presentations and workshops; experience with budget development and/or management; a clean driving record with a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Experience coordinating traditional transition or summer bridge programs preferred. Experience with academic advising preferred.

Necessary Certifications/Licenses:

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
