Visiting Assistant Professor of Education

Start Date August 2021

The Teacher Education Program seeks a full-time visiting assistant professor to teach diversity, equity (DEI), and inclusion courses as well as other courses as expertise allows. Additional responsibilities will include advising, mentoring students, and participating in departmental and committee tasks. This position will start August 2021.

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a master’s degree in education or related field, expertise in DEI education, current or past licensure and teaching experience in elementary or secondary schools (P-12) is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have taught elementary science, have a terminal degree, and can demonstrate successful higher education teaching experience.

MISSION: Bridgewater College is a residential liberal arts college of about 1600 students with a vibrant core curriculum and a growing focus on undergraduate research. The College emphasizes creativity and innovation in pedagogy and research. GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor’s degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley. An excellent school system, healthy business environment, numerous arts and cultural events, one of the state's lowest crime rates, and a variety of outdoor opportunities and historic attractions draw many to the region.
